Custom data types

Introduction

This article explains the Custom Data Types feature within Enterprise Recon.

Adding a Custom Data Type/Expression allows you to choose and customize what to search for, you may create your own rules and/or collate several default data type profiles then save it as a single profile.

Getting there

This feature can be found in step 2 (Select Data Types) of a new Search.

 

How to use

Describe your data type

Give your data type profile a name/label.

Add Rules

Here you can use the drop-down menu to select and customize various types of rules to help create the data type profile you want.
Rules go by order from top to bottom.

  • Phrase
    Enter a custom string of text to search for
  • Character
    (Single) Character types
  • Predefined
    Is part of/matches one of our predefined Data Type Profiles
    Do not use more than one

Advanced Options

  • Ignore duplicates
    Do not show duplicate matches of this Data Type
  • Minimum match count
    Only show matches if total matches of this Data Type is more than...

 

Example usage

This Data Type starts with 2 alphabets, followed by "ABC", and is an email address.
(eg. ZxABC@gmail.com)

 

View rules as expression

By clicking on "View rules as expression", you may manually enter rules using our expressions.
This is usually used for support cases when the end-user needs to create complicated Data Type profiles and requests for our help.

As there are a plethora of operators and syntax formats available, it is simply not feasible to list them all in an article.
