[ER] "Configuration failed. Could not resolve target host."

Issue:

When configuring the node agent on a target using the Enterprise Recon Configuration tool, you may experience an issue connecting to the master server using the DNS name.

The ER2 diagnostic tool may resolve the DNS name to the IP, but you still receive an error.

The configuration tool reports: 'Configuration Failed. Could not resolve target host XXX.YYY' or 'Cannot connect to the server'.

The Agent Manager on the Master Server Web console reports the agent as 'Not connected'.

Solution:

Replace the DNS name of the Master Server with the Master Server IP address within the configuration tool.

 For Windows OS

  1. Browse to the Ground Labs folder under the Programs list from the Start Menu or Windows button.
  2. Select the 'Configure Agent' tool.
  3. Under 'Master server IP address or host name' replace the DNS name with the IP address.
  4. There is no need to change the Public Key and Target Group values.
  5. Click 'Test Connection'.

You should observe the following result:

  6. Click 'Finish' and close the Configuration Tool.
  7. The target should now appear as Connected in the Agent Manager on the Master Server Web Console.

For Linux OS

  1. Open up your Terminal on your Linux machine.
  2. Stop the ER agent service by entering the following command: er2-agent -stop
  3. Then run the Configuration Tool in interactive mode by entering the following command: er2-config -interactive
Pressing ENTER while configuring the NODE AGENT with the interactive mode configures the NODE AGENT to use the last saved value for that parameter.
If there is no last saved value, an empty or default value is used.
  4. First, change the Master Server host name to the IP address by typing the IP address after the prompt.
  5. Then click enter to keep the public key and default group as default.
  6. Type 'Y' to confirm the correct group.
  7. Type 'Y' to test the connection setting.
  8. You should now observe 'Test SUCCESS', as per the following:

  9. Start the ER agent service by entering the following command: er2-agent -start
  10. The target should now appear as Connected in the Agent Manager on the Master Server Web Console.
